STAND FOR DEMOCRACY: MYANMAR - Marcelo Brodsky with Kolatt, Yadanar Win, Lily and Zoncy

PHOTOBASTEI, ZÜRICH, SWITZERLAND - 24.03 – 17.04.2022

Stand for Democracy: Myanmar is a photographic exhibition of the artist and human rights activist Marcelo Brodsky (b. 1954, Buenos Aires, Argentina). On the occasion of the exhibition in Zurich, Brodsky’s thirteen new artworks—which rely on photographs taken in Myanmar (also known as Burma) by activists and photojournalists—are presented in dialogue with video works and a performance by Ko Latt, Yadanar Win, Lily and Zoncy, who represent the new generation of Burmese artists and whose work reveal elements of Myanmar’s social, political, and cultural narrative. The exhibition offers to the public an engaging visual experience of what has been happening in Myanmar and triggers a sense of collective responsibility and need for action.

The exhibition at Photobastei is organized on behalf of the Human Rights Art Initiative, a charitable, non-profit initiative launched with the support of art+château. It stands in solidarity with the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) in Myanmar and its peaceful protesters and is part of a larger program of art shows and events which are taking place at art institutions and museums around the globe, including Tokyo Institute of Photography, Kunsthall 3,14 (Bergen, Norway) and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

The exhibition is curated by Giulia Busetti and Dr. Valentina Locatelli.
